I am a girl. The statement comes with a lot of overhead and underlying conclusions. But I’m just interested in writing about basic human emotions and interactions so lets focus here.
All my life and in the lives of my girlfriends, well most of them, I have noticed one constant character..people change but the character remains, always. I like to call him the “Other” guy. He isn’t a brother, boyfriend, cousin..he is just someone you know. Someone you work with, maybe a college friend, a neighbour..anyone, for that matter. But nevertheless, the Other guy has a very specific purpose in your life. You address him as a friend, you have absolutely no attraction towards him, physical or otherwise but this is one person you can depend with your life on. You donot remain friends for life even..they just come and go. But every now and then in our lives we come across these wonderful people who are nice, friendly, trustworthy and donot expect anything in return. I know what you are thinking, who does that these days? But look around yourself, you will find at least one such person.
I wouldnt know what really goes on in their minds, if they indeed have any expectations, hopes or romantic notions about the whole situation..because well, this symbiotic relationship is never really acknowledged. It isn’t important. But its a beautiful relationship nonetheless..light, guiltfree and pleasant. Its just good to know information..the presence of the “Other” guy in your life, which mostly goes unnoticed and taken for granted. I wonder if there are “Other” girls as well..who are nice and donot demand any attention in return. Maybe, maybe not.
